In the privacy of your home, the privacy of being by yourself behind closed doors, away from everyone else...don't you just love a BIG...Toblerone?
I do.
Today, I was in the check-out line at Trader Joe's buying pre-packaged organic frozen foods (I don't have time to cook from scratch every night, Beeyatches) and that's when it caught my eye - I bent down and SNATCHED it off the candy rack - a Toblerone!
Although I'm not a big sweet freak (more of a salty/stinky cheese/crisp kind of person), I DO enjoy Toblerone chocolate. MMMMM....mmmmmm!
Probably because it reminds me of when I used to be a cruise ship host wayyyyy back in the day (circa 1910). I was so impressionable back then. A couple days a week, as a cruise staff member, we were allowed to shop at the Cruise Staff Store, which was located behind an iron door, a deck below sea level.
To this day, I think my loyalty to brands was forged way back when.
My usual 'staples' at the time were Degree Deodorant, Gillette Razors, and Toblerone chocolates. There wasn't much of a selection; you just had to buy what was available on ship.
Which leads me to another point - when you have a captive audience, you can create in them a loyalty that is unlike any other.
Do you have a bizarre loyalty to a brand or product that you reminisce over? And why? I'd love to know.

Oh your talking about the real Toblerone! I thought that was just code word. Well I do tend to like Lancome skin care. I have been using it for close to 14 years now and won't budge to anything else. That why I don't look....Oh never mind. I have god skin because of it lets say!
oh, I'm devoted to Coke.
I think I was nursed on it.
But I haven't had a big Toblerone in years! The candy either.
Hi Corey,
it´s funny you are posting this today, cause yesterday I met with some friends and we talked about the same thing.
Amazing, I didn´t know you can buy Toblerone in the U.S.. I´ve never seen it in any store there!
My Dad comes from Switzerland and Toblerone is something like a national treasure there, lol, I had lots of it in my childhood and still like this choc a lot. I think the secret are the lottle pieces of turkish honey in it - yummy!
As for your question - I´m a scent person. I totally connect to memories through scents. I think the biggest loyality I hold for my perfume Hypnotic Poison by Dior. I first bought it in my youth when I went to an university of classical ballet and acting.
I spent some wonderful years on this school and this scent was my daily piece of luxury. I never quit using it, even when I was totally out of money. I rather spared any other needs - I HAD to have this scent every day.
People still recognize me by this scent. Not long ago I met an old friend I didn´t see since ages in a bar. He turned around and smiled "I cannot believe it! I smelled this scent and knew it was you" :)
I LOVE this stuff!
xoxo
Oh yes! Franco American Spaghetti IN THE CAN! Yes, since about the age of 5 I've loved to eat it out of the can. But Campbell's bought it and DAMN IF THEY DIDN'T CHANGE THE LABEL.
Corey, some things should NEVER change! LEAVE THE LABELS ALONE!
So. My favorite once-in-a-while meal: spaghetti in the can, a Miracle Whip sandwich, and a big glass of milk!
Ummmm!
Diet Coke, Heinz ketchup, Jergens lotion, S.O.S. scouring pads. These are my unshakeable brand loyalties. Otherwise, I'm a complete consumer slut and will buy anything!
I've never had a Toblerone.
I lead the life of a nun.
And I am as disloyal anf fickle to products as I am to friends.
??????
But, i do love a good Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.
