As with many things in life, there are rules. Rules that must be strictly adhered to, otherwise any derivation could shift the space/time continuum.
Take for example, grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. One may have a grilled cheese sandwich AND tomato soup, but one must never eat them separately. That would just be wrong, and it’s not good etiquette.
For the Grilled Cheese Sandwich:
Rule #1
Use a whole grain bread. We’re all adults here, and white bread is just boring.
Rule #2
Always cut the sandwich into triangles. By cutting it in any other fashion, you risk having the flavor escape. (Just stating the facts, folks)
For the Tomato Soup:
Rule #1
Add a splash of milk to it – makes it creamier.
Rule #2
Add oyster crackers and fresh ground pepper for flair and flavor.
Again, any break from these rules and you may cause the start of World War III.
Any questions?
With a little magic, you too could create this…

Reminds me of coming home from school for lunch when I was a kid. Comfort food then. Comfort food now.
I just had a toasted swiss cheese sandwich myself.
whole grain, check
triangle cut, depends on my mood I find, and sometimes I don't cut at all (those are the extra bitter days). Today it was just straight down the middle.
Now soup (I went soupless today)
splash of milk, check check
oyster crackers and fresh cracked pepper check check check check
so I deviated, we're still friends right?
I love your countertops.
@Liza Oooh! toasted swiss cheese on whole grain..I'll have to try that! Mmm...mmm, now THAT'S a grown up version. Sounds yummay!
@Debra. Yes! It's comfort food time of year. I wonder if I could open a restaurant or small cafe and sell comfort childhood foods, like mac 'n cheese, Chef Boyardee Ravioli and Spaghettios! Sloppy Joe sammiches and baloney sandwiches.
Hmmm?
Just stating the facts: Renee loves Corey. xoxoxo
One of my favorite meals!! Especially now that winter is coming!
wow....just like Debra, that's exactly what it reminds me of, staying home from school....the most wonderful days of ALL. :)
i use swiss cheese for my grilled cheese. :) and i agree that the two are not to be eaten without each other.
yum! makes me want and i have neither.
Thank you, Corey!
I now know what I'm going to have for lunch today!!

We had grilled cheese and tomato soup last night for dinner and again today for lunch. Soup and sandwich is my favorite "winter" meal. I esp. love the Trader Joe's roasted red pepper & tomato soup...MMMM.
