Well, we all knew it was coming.
We all knew it wouldn’t go on forever.
We all know there will never be anything quite like it again.

She makes the announcement...and the world heaves a collective sigh of relief. Not because we are remotely happy that it’s out in the open now. But because we have a date, and time to prepare for the talk show apocalypse.

Yes, Oprah announced that she will be ending her 25-year run as host of the world’s most influential talk show in television history by end of 2011.

You know those people who always say, ‘well, I knew so and so BEFORE they were famous’. In this circumstance, I’m gonna be one of those people!

I remember when The Color Purple came out, and I couldn’t wait to tell everyone in my family that Oprah Winfrey was gonna be in a big, big movie. Of course, they all knew who I was talking about, because when we lived in Maryland for several years, we used to watch People Are Talking on WJZ 13 (a Baltimore TV station). The show was hosted by Oprah and Richard Sher.

When I was 10 years old, I didn’t understand anything about talk shows, I just knew I liked watching this one. In hindsight, I guess it was just mesmerizing to watch Oprah and Richard interact, and they used to cover the most curious news stories. It only took a few minutes and you were pulled in.

Flash forward a few years, The Color Purple was released and Oprah wowed the world. Then boom! She’s got her own talk show. I used to secretly giggle to myself how at the time all the media seemed to think she got her ‘start’ after TCP, when in fact, she’d been a journalist for several years prior. I just thought it was kind of cool to see her on the big screen after I’d watched her for years on TV (and before she went to Chicago).

So, what are we gonna do in 2012 without a daily Oprah fix? No worries, I’m sure there will be many DVD boxed sets released, and she’ll always be around somewhere – probably spending some of her days counting out her billion$ one dollar at time. (My, my...how our hair and fashions have changed over the years.)

Gotta go! Oprah’s on!

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
What are we going to do without Oprah?!?!

As a fellow Chicagoan, the end of Oprah seems like an even bigger loss to us.

I guess Tyra better get ready! haha

I'm gonna miss her show :(
At least I will still have Ellen and Wendy Williams.

@PaulBenjamin Oh yeah, Tyra BETTER get ready. She's got some tall stilettos to fill!

@robertga99

Wendy Williams...oh gosh. I forgot about that hotmess. She may prove to be a good alternative.

However, Ellen is DEFINITELY the heir apparent.

People shouldn't loose any sleep over this. Like a livingroom suite bought on a two-year, no interest, no payment plan, 2011 will never come.

Hard to believe there will be no Oprah Show. An amazing achievement. Probably won't happen again. The world is so different now.
